We are so thrilled to announce that The Sari Project has been selected by Bunjil Place to showcase alongside an international touring exhibition, The Offbeat Sari for July and August 2026.
This public exhibition situated in the beautiful spaces of the Bunjil Place Arts precinct gives an opportunity for a whole new audience to experience the fashion designs repurposed from saris by The Social Studio creatives/students, their design and story inspirations, the interviews with the Kahini aunties about their early migration journey and the retail collection which was showcased at Melbourne Fashion Week 2025. We are so proud to feature alongside The Offbeat Sari – an exhibit so rich in research history and evolution of the sari and the artists who make them.

We held a private gathering to celebrate the launch of this exhibit and the student artists on Saturday 25th July 2025 – it was a chance to share our journey with our key supporters and friends, hear from the artists and the aunties themselves and to reflect on the journey of The Social Studio alongside Kahini.
It was a beautiful afternoon, with chai and Indian snacks, alongside a private tour of The Offbeat Sari for the aunties and students.
